Let Them Eat Cake? YES PLEASE!

Gâteau, Kuche, torta, call it what you like, cake is scrumptious. Whether it is cheesecake, tiramisu, red velvet cake or a simple chocolate cake…the world of cake is ripe with potential and Aisha Aikien, with ease and expertise, proves herself to be a veritable guru. She is the proud owner of Ganache Gourmet Desserts and has been delighting Trinidad with her artful creations for approximately four years. Typically, orders centre on weddings, anniversaries, birthdays and other such events – but any excuse to eat cake is a good excuse, no?

After pursuing her Associates Degree in Culinary Management and working in the main kitchen of Battimamzelle, among others, she realized that baking and entrepreneurship was more her speed so she decided to “dessert” the savoury for the sweet! Through her natural talent, dedication and word of mouth she soon had a flourishing business.

Her business has grown over the years and despite advertising and marketing being quite a challenge at first, she’s quite happy with where she is and where she’s going! The fact that she can create something beautiful out of some flour, eggs, icing (and/or as the moniker indicates, ganache (frosting or filling made with chocolate and cream)), makes her extremely happy. Aisha is inspired by almost anything and when the job gets tough her sweet tooth keeps her going.

During her time as a Holy Name Convent girl, she loved Art but was never able to pursue it; so she sees her kitchen as her canvas and her ingredients as her paint. Having tasted her handiwork, it’s no surprise that Ganache desserts are in high demand because they are both pleasing to the eye and simply delectable. She admits, however, that the field is very difficult as customers can be tough and although self-employed, hours can be very long; especially when it comes to those finishing touches so that her final product is exactly as she meant it to be; even if it means hand painting, rather than airbrushing, her flowers for the ideal look.

An adventurous baker, Aisha is open to making new and extra-ordinary cakes. The occasional hiccup arises when she needs to source materials from abroad, but this is easily done in this global village we live in, usually one just needs to be patient; so if you’re planning something exotic and uber-creative – give her fair warning!

Customer satisfaction and pride in a job well done make it worthwhile though. It also helps that she’s doing what she loves and although the field is becoming more popular in our twin isles, she is confident that with her winning combination of good service and a quality product which looks and tastes great, she is sure to succeed!

So what is the next step for Aisha? Her dream is to open a café, one that “has to be different from the others – the products and the atmosphere...”, she says; but for now Aisha continues to enjoy her job and fine-tune her skills as what we at LizBliz like to call “une boulangère extraordinaire”. Mmjjszjdfk jdijejdm fkje…whoops! Don’t eat Ganache Gourmet Desserts and try to type, the cake will win! Her delicious products can be found at Peppercorns and Wrapworks Deli, but feel free to contact her directly through Facebook, email, or just give her a shout @ 729-9835. You won’t regret it. We didn’t!
